Emergency Management, AS


The mission of the Associate of Science in Emergency Management is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of emergency management and disaster response. The focus of the curriculum is on impactful coordination of response to emergencies and disasters, evaluation of mitigation and preparedness strategies, and the impact of disasters on communities.

Goal/Learning Outcomes

Graduates completing the Associate of Science in Emergency Management program will accomplish the following outcomes:

  1. Identify the major concepts and theoretical perspectives of emergency management, disaster mitigation, disaster preparedness, and emergency response.
  2. Identify and articulate the functions of local, state, and federal governments and agencies in emergency management.
  3. Identify and monitor hazard risks and opportunities to mitigate hazardous conditions.
  4. Integrate effective verbal and written communication skills.

Admission Requirements

All students must minimally meet the requirements for general admission to South College. General admission to South College does not guarantee admission to the program. Program admission is not granted until a student has successfully completed 8 hours in the major curriculum at South College, earning a minimum grade of “C” in all major courses.


The Associate of Science in Emergency Management degree program is offered Online.
