PAS 5242 Public Health

This course provides students with an overview of the basic concepts of public health and preventative medicine as they relate to the practicing physician assistant. Topics include disease prevention, surveillance, reporting, and intervention; the public health system; and patient advocacy and maintenance of population health. Health as it relates to the public sector is covered through topics of health care system delivery, access to care, and health policy. A module of instruction including social determinants of health, health disparity, racism, and historical trauma is also included.
