ECH 2310 Advanced Cardiac Imaging

Lecture: 4 Lab: 0 Practica: 0 Total Credits: 4
This advanced cardiac and vascular imaging course provides a comprehensive overview of congenital heart disease, from embryology to common defects such as septal defects and tetralogy of Fallot. Each condition is explored in detail, covering causes, symptoms, echocardiographic findings, and complications. Students will also learn about surgical procedures and perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of cardiac function. Furthermore, the course delves into essential pharmacology for cardiovascular care, including major drug classifications and their use in emergencies and stress echocardiography. Students explore diagnostic tests beyond TTE, such as TEE, stress echo, angiography, cardiac MRI and CT, and how these are used with medication or contrast agents to diagnose and manage heart disease. Extending beyond the heart, the course also encompasses peripheral vascular and extracranial vasculature imaging. Students learn to assess arterial and venous systems, including the identification of common pathologies and the application of appropriate imaging modalities.

Prerequisite(s): ECH2210 with a grade of C or better
